For those who would like to start creating artwork in 3D... I recommend playing with some of the free programs out there just to get a feel for it. Over at the ZBrush forums they have a posting that started in 2003 with a listing of more free programs than you'll know what to do with.

See the posting here: www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/show… ...I would recommend skipping to the last page and working backward since some of the links in the beginning no longer work but it's an excellent resource.

For professional programs, I highly recommend...
3DSMax: usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/…
Modo: www.luxology.com/
Maya: usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/…
Cinema 4D: www.maxon.net/pages/products/c…
ZBrush: www.pixologic.com/home.php

I believe all of the professional programs have trial versions or "personal learning editions" which you can try out for free.

That should be more than enough to get started. If anybody has any questions... don't hesitate to ask.

Good luck to all! :-)

Good selection!
I started with 3d Studio max version 1.5 or 2 then I switched to maya, I can't remember the version though ! :XD:
At the beginning I was totally crazy about 3d, couldn't select a specific one. But Finally I became very interested in C4d when I saw people make eye catching abstract work in Cinema 4d. :)
After then I'm still with it. But I don't know much about abstract :stupidme:.
